CHAPTER 4 - DREAMING OF HER
Michael Redson
His mind was flooded with thoughts when it happened. He collided with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen; she looked familiar, but he thought he didn't know her. Maybe she was an actress or a singer, and he saw her on television. His gaze was transfixed upon her. He was out of words; that had never happened to him before, even with his beautiful wife Lana. When he returned the textbooks that he picked up from the floor, their hands touched, and he felt a jolt of electricity running through his arm. That was strange, he thought. He watched her until she disappeared through the hallway.
As he entered the classroom, his eyes immediately fell upon her graceful presence. As he was teaching the class, he couldn't stop looking at Melinne's beautiful face. Her divine green eyes, like emeralds, were captivating him. She had such a beautiful, sweet, pleasant smile. She had the kind of smile that you will never forget. Her face was angelic and inspired peace. Every time he looked at her, he felt like his heart was melting. Sometimes he found himself staring at her and had to intentionally move his head and look in another direction. He didn't understand what was going on with him, but he had to stop that magnetism.
After class, he went inside his car, and when he turned on the radio, his wife's favorite song started to play. All the memories of that horrifying day came back. His world came tumbling down. He felt a pain so deep in his heart that it took his breath away. He did not realize how he got to his house. He started to cry so hard, he could not control the tears that were falling down his face. He was sobbing uncontrollably. That was the reason he didn't want to come back to Sunset Beach. There were too many bad memories in this place. At that moment, he heard God's voice in his heart telling him, "Son, concentrate on the good memories you had with your wife Lana."
"God, I can't. You know I came back because of mom's heart attack and the car accident. She convinced me to substitute for her and stay in Sunset Beach for a few months. She had already talked to the Sunset Beach University Board of Trustees, and they wanted me on their team. Lord, you know I accepted to teach temporarily because I want to help and to please my mom. She is very fragile after her heart attack and accident; I don't want her to have any stress. I need you, Father. God, please help me! So many memories, Lord."
He had always felt guilty for not being at home with his wife that dreadful day and for not being able to save her. He had to work late that day, like so many others. "Why did I have to spend so many hours away from my family? God, why did you take them from me? I miss them so much. This pain is horrendous. I feel like a dagger is ripping my heart in two pieces. Please, Lord! your word said that You won't leave me, not forsake me. Take this pain from my heart, Father. Please fill me with your peace again." He got himself on his knees and cried so hard until he fell asleep.
That night he dreamed about the gorgeous woman he saw today at the university. She had the most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen. Her silky-smooth black hair cascaded to her waist, moving rhythmically with the wind. In the dream, they were together facing the ocean, holding hands. She was telling him, "I take you as my husband," and the words, "I love you," he felt so at peace looking at her. He was putting a ring on her finger and saying "I take you as my wife."
When he awoke from his dream, he felt agitated. Michael woke up with an awful headache. He took some pain medication and pondered about the dream he had. He yearned to feel again the love he felt in his dream. It was the most beautiful feeling in the world. "What am I thinking? I'm not going to love or marry anybody again. She is gorgeous, but she is not meant for me," he said out loud. "I am not going to let my heart break all over again with somebody else. End of story." Even though he was determined not to fall in love again, he was unable to stop thinking about her. He shook his head, reflecting where all these odd thoughts and feelings were coming from. He was getting distressed because he felt that he was betraying the love of his life, Lana.
He had gone through so much heartache in his life. His dad divorced his mother and abandoned his children when he was twelve. His dad got married two months later with the woman he was seeing behind her mother's back. A woman twenty years younger than him. His mother Marietta, his brothers Dylan and John, and his sister Liz suffered so much, and he was unable to do anything about it. He was only able to be there for them in that terrible situation. Relationships are complicated and cause a lot of hurt. He was better off being by himself, writing romance novels and medical textbooks. He was happy that way. Maybe not happy, but his life was acceptable, and he didn't need anybody.
He prepared himself pancakes for breakfast. He made strawberry cheesecake pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, and toast. "These tastes so…good!" Michael learned how to cook at an early age, and he cooked very well. After eating, he showered and dressed. He went to the garage, opened the garage door, and went to his truck. He opened the door of his Ford F-150 red limited edition and drove to visit his mom. During the day he stayed with his mom, accompanying her and helping her, and during the afternoon he taught at Sunset Beach University.
