Her Purpose - Soulmates - Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5 - AWESOME BREAKFAST

Melinne Martin

The next day, early in the morning, Melinne went to eat breakfast at her favorite restaurant with Maggie, as they had agreed. They were seated at their favorite table at the back of the restaurant, looking at the beach. It was a beautiful, shiny day. The sun rays were streaming, vivid, and warm, with a golden hue that gave light to the restaurant.

The beach was almost empty at this time of the morning. Only a few people were surfing. There was a stunning view of the ocean, the water reflecting the beautiful clear and blue sky. "Wow! It is so beautiful here," she said. Melinne glanced quickly at her best friend. Her friend was mesmerized by the beautiful ocean view.

"It is incredible!'' Maggie said. It seems as if she was connected with nature. Maggie quoted a Bible verse: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of his hands. Thank you, God, for giving us a new day."

"Amen!" Melinne said.

The Sunset Beach Jewel Restaurant was painted in pastel colors. At the entrance, were two small Christmas trees adorned with multitudes of lights of different colors. Inside the restaurant was a big, tall tree, with huge big ornaments. The lights on the tree twinkled like stars from the sky. Under the tree were gift boxes wrapped with green, silver, gold, and red Christmas paper. At the top of the tree was a big angel. The angel changed colors and looked so magnificent.

The decorations were exquisite. There were tables with chairs placed neatly around the restaurant. All the tables had silver tablecloths and poinsettia plants. Everything looked so delightful. The restaurant reminded her of the beautiful Christmases she had with her family. The celebration of the birth of her Savior Jesus. The laughter, the love, and the closeness of her family. She loved and treasured the Christmas season.

The restaurant server greeted us professionally and warmly as he took our order. "What would you like to eat for breakfast this beautiful morning?"

"I would like blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, turkey slices, hashbrowns, and coffee." Maggie said.

"I would like to eat chocolate pancakes with maple syrup, ham, scrambled eggs, and a cappuccino." Melinne said.

While waiting for the food to be served, they talked and admired the beauty of the place. The waiter brought the food, and it was exquisite. The sight and aroma of the food brought happiness to their souls. The restaurant smelled like vanilla and cinnamon. The restaurant was new to the area, opening about seven months ago. Melinne had been there seven times already, and she was going to come back again, for sure.

"Melinne, where are you spending Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas this year?" Maggie asked her friend.

"On Thanksgiving, I am thinking about renting a restaurant and getting together with family and friends. On second thought, I would like to rent this restaurant for our gathering. Don't plan anything for that day; I want you to spend time with us. On Christmas Eve, I'm staying at home on Sunset beach. My friend Alexander is going to visit me in the afternoon, and he will stay for about an hour, unless I am able to convince him to stay until Christmas day. Whenever he visits me, he always ends up studying with me. My dad is coming to visit on Christmas day around 1:00 p.m. My siblings are not coming this year on Christmas Eve and Christmas day because they will be traveling. It will be my dad and me on Christmas day; he is staying with me for a few days."

"Melinne, I would like you to spend Christmas Eve with me."

Melinne didn't want to socialize with anybody that was not part of her family or friends. She had her plate full, so much work to do. She had to work on Christmas Eve during the morning, plus she was going to be studying every day for one of her finals that was going to be on January 7, after Christmas break, and she knew she wasn't going to have too much time. Finals were usually in the middle of December, but the university changed the rules for that year, and they were going to have the finals in January. "Maggie, I don't want to make any commitments. I don't think I will be able to go because I have too many things to do."

Maggie was very persuasive and she insisted. "You cannot be working and studying all the time, Melinne. You need to rest, which, by the way, you look tired and awful," Maggie said, teasing her.

Melinne answered, "Thank you very much, best friend." They started to laugh.

"Really, I'm very serious; you have to make some time to relax and rest. I'm only inviting a few good friends. It is not going to be a big party. Only about ten people, including my cousin, the one that is very handsome and like you." Maggie led out a quick burst of laughter.

"Not funny, Maggie; I'm not really in the mood to have somebody in my life, not even the irresistible professor. Remember, no man in my life, end of story. Do not try to be a matchmaker; that's not working for you." She chuckled.

She was having an awesome time with her friend Maggie, like always when they hung out. Melinne had with Maggie the confidence to talk about any topic. She always made her laugh, but it was time to get to work. "If I decide to go, can I take my good friend Alexander with me?"

"Of course, Melinne."

"I would get back to you about this, but now I must run and go to work." Melinne was working at the Sunset Beach Hospital as a medical researcher. Following her divorce two years ago, she commenced employment at that location.

She kissed and hugged Maggie. "Goodbye, Maggie, love you."

"Love you too, friend; see you soon." Maggie said.

Melinne studied so hard after her mother died that she skipped a grade and finished High School at fifteen years old. She went to college and completed her bachelor's degree at eighteen. She also completed the (MCAT), Medical College Admission Test.

The MCAT examination is a test to assess your problem-solving, critical thinking, and knowledge of natural, behavioral, and social science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine. The exam covers,

1. Biological and biochemical foundations of living systems

2. Chemical and physical foundations of biological systems

3. Psychological, social, and biological foundations of behavior

4. Critical analysis and reasoning skills

She started medical school at eighteen and studied two years before she got married. She married when she was twenty years old. After getting married, she had to stop studying because her husband didn't want her to study or work. Ten years later, after her divorce, she continued her medical studies. Now she was in the process of taking a few more classes to finally graduate from medical school.

The next step will be to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination, and then she has to start the residency. She had already submitted an application at Sunset Beach Hospital and was praying that they would accept her. For now, she was going to focus on finishing her classes and taking the medical licensing examination. She was so happy that her life was not over after her divorce, and so grateful that God has given her the opportunity to fulfill her dreams, and more importantly her call.

She started working her shift at 7:00 a.m. Today was a busy day. Marlene Elaine Thompson, one of the researchers that worked with her, was absent. Her dad was really sick, and she had to travel to the west coast to take care of him and help him. She was going to be there for two weeks. Melinne's boss talked to her and told her that she needed her to be at work for the next two weeks, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. She wanted her to work until 7:00 p.m., but Melinne reminded her that she had to go to the university. Her boss was not very happy, but she accepted it. One of the conditions Melinne wrote in her work application before starting to work was not to work after 5:00 p.m. because she had to take classes.
After work that day, she grabbed a quick meal from a restaurant, went home, took a shower, and went to the university. She was five minutes late to class. She was exhausted from working hard in the hospital all day. She didn't have to work at all because of the money the court awarded her, but she loved to work. She had bleary eyes, under-eye bags, and hanging eyelids. "God help me today at class. I am feeling so tired, but I know I can do all things through You Christ because you give me strength. Love You, Lord."
