Her Purpose - Soulmates - Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2 - THE NEW PROFESSOR

Melinne Martin

Melinne was on her way to fulfill her purpose as a doctor. Her deepest desire was to be able to help alleviate the pain of other human beings. She had been through a lot of pain during her lifetime. When she was twelve, her mother was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Her dad Mark, her siblings Jonah, Marianne, Simon, Leann, and her, tried to take care of their mom, Marissa Martin, the best way they could.

One day her mom was feeling extremely sick; she knew she was leaving this world. She called her children and her husband to her bedroom. She looked at her husband and kids with love and tenderness. Each of them gave her hugs and kisses, showing her the immense love they felt for her. Marissa smiled at each of her children. She had a beautiful, peaceful smile on her face.

"Honey, can you come closer?" she asked Mark.

Her dad answered, "Of course, dear."

She smiled at her husband, brushed her lips to his, and said to him, "Goodbye, my love."

At that moment, she left this world to be with the Lord. Even though the family knew where she was and what the Bible says about death, her death caused the family unbearable pain. The funeral was heartbreaking. The whole small town of Sunset Beach was present at her mom's burial ceremony. They loved her family, and her family loved the citizens of the small town of Sunset Beach. They continued living one day at a time, resting in God's arms and always recalling Psalm 46:10, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. That was the only way they were able to endure that unspeakable pain they felt in their hearts.

She missed her mom so much. She was just a little girl. She felt so helpless, and her heart was broken into a million pieces. At that instant, she decided that when she grew up, she was going to be the best doctor she could be. She was going to be able to help people.

2 years after her divorce

Melinne had been studying and working extremely hard to fulfill her call to help others. She moved to her hometown after her horrific divorce. She knew that God was guiding her to be a doctor, and there wasn't going to be any man that would hold her back again from God's will to help people as a doctor. Even though her body felt exhausted, she felt God's power giving her strength day by day. It was awesome to feel his mighty presence in her life.

One day after work, she was running late to her class. She was walking so fast that she didn't have time to stop when a person appeared in a corner. They just collided with each other, and her books went flying through the air.

"Are you ok?" the man asked.

"I am fine. I'm so sorry. I should have been paying more attention to where I was going; are you all right sir?" she asked him.

They looked into each other's eyes, and it felt like the world stopped spinning; she could not breath; she couldn't stop staring at those beautiful eyes. He had the most gorgeous eyes she had ever seen; he was stunning, oh my! There was a familiar hint of recognition, but she did not remember where. He kneeled and picked up her medical textbooks and her notebook from the floor and gave them to her.

"Thank you, Sir. I am so sorry, I must go; I am late for class." He smiled as he watched her fly through the hallway.

When she got to class, at exactly 6:00 p.m. Professor Morris was not sitting at her desk. "Where is Professor Marietta Morris?" she asked her friend and fellow student, Sarah McClain.

"I heard that Mrs. Morris was involved in an automobile accident, and we are going to have a substitute professor this semester," Sarah answered. The door opened, and he entered the classroom. She couldn't believe it; it was the handsome man she bumped into in the hallway. She was shocked and felt so embarrassed, she felt her face burning.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I am Professor Michael Redson, and I will be your substitute teacher this semester. As you all may know, Professor Morris had an accident. She is doing well, but she needs rest to heal and get back to normal. Let's go ahead and start the class with each of you introducing yourselves." Everybody stated their names. When it was her turn, she stood up and felt unsettled. That is strange, she told herself.

"I'm Melinne Martin." She felt like his eyes were looking deep inside her soul. He was looking at her with such an intense gaze. Her heart thumped, and she felt her body shaking. What is going on with me? she thought. The class finished, and as she drove home, she could not stop thinking about her new professor.

She had to tell her best friend and ask her for prayer. Once she got home, she called her best friend Maggie Murphy. Maggie had been her best friend since they were in kindergarten together; they were inseparable. Maggie answered after two beeps.

"Hi Melinne, How are you doing, darling?"

"I am doing good, Maggie. I need your prayers. I have something to tell you that worries me. I have a new professor in college; his name is Professor Redson. He is gorgeous, has shiny, beautiful blond hair, and his baby blue eyes melted my heart the first time he looked at me. Maggie, I'm not supposed to think that way. Every time I close my eyes, I can see his face. I don't know what is going on with me. I do not want to be in any relationship. I need to focus and keep my mind in school. I want to finish medical school and then do residency. I do not have time for anything else, but I can't stop thinking about him."

Maggie squealed with delight. "Hey girl, finally. Maybe he is the one. It has been two years since your divorce, and you have not dated anyone since."

"No, no, no, Maggie, I must concentrate on my studies. No relationships for me, you know that. Please, I need your prayers." She inhaled deeply. There was silence.

"I will be praying for you, sweet friend. I will ask God to guide you and to give you a clear mind about this situation with the professor. Melinne, can we get together for breakfast tomorrow?"

Maggie is a wonderful friend. She is an amazing young doctor. She is beautiful inside and out. She is the kind of woman that stops traffic wherever she goes. She is tall, has dark, wavy hair, that is shoulder length. She is working now at Sunset Beach Hospital. She is her best friend and the only person that she is able to confide in and tell her everything she tries to do in this world, excluding her family. Her family has always been there for her. How much Melinne loves her friend Maggie. She loves her kindness and her love for God. She is an example to her.

"Yes, of course," Melinne said. "Text me the name of the restaurant, and I'll meet you there."
