Her Purpose - Soulmates - Chapter 12

CHAPTER 12 - THE AFTERMATH

Michael Redson

Michael awoke very early that morning. What he found was unthinkable. It looked like a bomb had gone off. The devastation was horrible; there was not one tree standing. Some of the house windows and glass doors were broken. Their shed got blown off. Melinne's car flipped by the violent winds and was totaled. It was picked up like it was a miniature toy. Power lines were on the streets. People had to be exceptionally careful walking around the debris. The storm left a massive path of destruction.

When Michael's family came out of the house, the wind was calm and the sky blue with puffy clouds that looked like cotton balls situated in the immense, beautiful sky. Nobody would have believed that a storm just passed through Sunset Beach.

In response to the disaster, the resilient community of the island came together. They didn't wait for the government or different authorities to start the cleaning process. They wasted no time in pooling their efforts, clearing away debris from the streets and highways, determined to restore order and safety.

The Sunset Beach residents got their chainsaws, went to the roads and highways, and started cutting trees that were in their way and removing them from the streets so that vehicles could go through. They wanted to reach people in need and help them. People on the island helped each other; they moved like one with a purpose. They cleared the streets on the island and went downtown. Michael's family took clothes, food, and everything they could carry in their trucks to help the community. Michael and Melinne worked hand in hand.

By lunchtime, they stopped to eat something. Melinne was beside him, and he told her. "You are an amazing woman, Melinne, you haven't thought about your car, but here you are helping others. You are the kind of woman that I admire." She blushed.

"Thank you, Michael. A car is a material thing, what is important is that people are fine. A car is replaceable; a person is not. I pray that God will always give me physical strength and means to provide, give assistance, and support to others. That is what is important in this life."

David, Mrs. Morris, and Liz walked to them. "Michael and Melinne, let's pray for the situation at hand," his mom said.

Michael prayed, "Heavenly Father, we express our love and devotion to you. In this time of need, we humbly implore you to extend your strength and support to those who feel weak and vulnerable. Move your people to give a hand to others. Wipe every tear off their eyes. We trust you and know that you will turn the mourning of the people to dance. Thanks, because this community will be united and stronger than ever. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen."

After they got home, they ate together. Mrs. Morris asked, "Melinne, can you stay here today? Michael will take you home tomorrow."

"Yes, Mrs. Morris."

After dinner, they all got comfortable and got cozy on the sofa to watch a romance movie. Melinne didn't know, but it was Michael's book converted into a movie. "Wow! I love that movie; I have seen it more than ten times, and I do not get tired of it; it is my favorite." Mrs. Morris looked at Michael, and her eyes sparkled. What was that? Melinne asked herself. After the movie, they drank hot cocoa, chatted for a little while, and went to sleep.
