El Poder de Nuestras Palabras

EL PODER DE NUESTRAS PALABRAS

Rosa Enid Cruz Roque

Cambios, Febrero 5, 2026

Hablemos Vida.

The Power of our Words

THE POWER OF OUR WORDS

Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." The Bible teaches us that our words are extremely important. The words we say, will bring forth fruit. What we speak can bring destruction for us and for those around us or it can bring life.

Proverbs 12:18 states, "Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing" (NLT). Our words have the potential to be either harmful or therapeutic, like a medicine.

Every day we have to make decisions, from the moment we wake up until we finally go to sleep. It is my sincere hope that each one of us consciously chooses to speak in a manner that honors God and serves as a conduit of healing, comfort, and encouragement to those around us. This standard of speech is not one we can meet by sheer human willpower. With the constant presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are fully equipped and empowered to accomplish this. The Holy Spirit not only convicts us when we miss the mark but actively refines our hearts, shaping our tongue to align with God's loving purpose.

I used to hear people say that "words are gone with the wind," implying that once spoken, they dissipate without lasting effect. However, the Word of God teaches me something very different. It unequivocally teaches that there is a profound, tangible power in what we speak. Our words are not fleeting vapor; they are seeds planted in the soil of others' hearts, bearing fruit; life or death, encouragement or destruction, faith or fear.

Therefore, let us approach every conversation, every comment, and every communication-whether face-to-face or digitally, with intentionality and reverence to God. Let us consciously and consistently Speak Life. This means choosing blessing over cursing, hope over despair, truth in love over destructive gossip, and building up rather than tearing down. Our words are tools of creation and transformation, and by dedicating them to the service of God and humanity, we become instruments of His grace in a world desperately in need of healing.

Let us Speak Life.

Hojas Verdes o Hojas Secas

HOJAS VERDES O HOJAS SECAS
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque

Green Leaves or Dry Leaves

GREEN LEAVES OR DRY LEAVES
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque
November 25, 2014

Today I've been thinking about the plants I have in my house. On Saturday when I saw them, they looked ugly. Some leaves were dry and the plants looked like they were dying. I removed the dried leaves, cut some leaves that did not look good and put some water.

Today, two days later, the plants are alive again and they look beautiful. The leaves are green.

As I was pulling the dry leaves and cutting what looked ugly, I was pondering what happens to us when we begin to stay away from God. If we don’t get close to God, If we stop praying (talking to Him and listening to Him), If we stop reading The Word (learning from Him and letting Him speak to us through His Word), spiritually speaking our lives start to wither also like those leaves. Our lives dry and we start dying spiritually. Plants need water to stay alive and beautiful and we need to stay glued to God to be alive spiritually and to be productive bearing fruit in this land.

John 15:5-6

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in Me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

I pray to God to reveal to our hearts how important it is to stay close to Him, always in communication with Him. There is nothing better in this world.

Fathers and Mothers

FATHERS AND MOTHERS
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque
June 17, 2021

Sometimes I like to write and today was one of those days. I wrote this devotional and 5 songs. Now I have to get the music for the songs.

In the last few months I have been thinking about the things that made me happy when I was a little girl. A highlight or, one of the most important things when I was growing up was my visits to my grandmother’s house in Guavate. My mom used to go to see her mom, if I remember correctly, every week. When we got there we went to see my grandma and we talked with her for a little while, then I visited my aunts and uncles and then I went to play with my cousins. I really enjoyed going to Guavate. I used to go to the river, I went to pick berries and fruits and run through my grandma’s land. This was one of the best parts of my life. Every time I went there I felt so happy.

Thinking about this reminded me about a Bible verse that says Honor your father and your mother. Exodus 20:12, Deuteronomy 5:16, Matthew 15:4, Ephesians 6:2,3.

What honor means - to regard or treat someone with admiration and great respect. If your parents and grandparents are alive, call them, send them a text message, and visit them. Ask them how they are doing. Let them know you care about them. As people get older their minds start to change and they say things that maybe make you feel embarrassed, or they repeat themselves a lot, or they do other things you don’t like. Treat them always with respect, have patience with them, be kind with them and love them. Probably when you were a child you sometimes embarrassed them when you wanted something in the store and you started to scream. But they still were patient with you and loved you with all their hearts. I wish my Mom, Dad, Grandparents and all my family will still be here.

Mother’s day is over and Father’s day is in 3 days. Call them, make them feel special; let them know how important they are for you. Remember to call your dad this Sunday. If you have them close, visit them and hug them. Don’t wait until it is too late and then regret not spending time or talking on the phone with them. Time on this earth is short; life is like a flower, today is here and tomorrow is gone. Another thing, Father’s and Mother’s days are not about gifts, but about loving, honoring and respecting them like the Bible teaches us. Most important of all is to honor our Father God. Let GOD know how much you love Him.

Note – As I was writing this, I mentioned Father’s Day and Mother’s Day because that was one of the things that made me think about this subject. It’s so sad to see sons and daughters treating their Fathers and mothers so disrespectfully. Honoring God, your Father, Mother, Grandmother and Grandfather is something you do everyday not only on Father’s and Mother’s Day. But Father’s day is a day honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds. Call your dad.

Love You All,

Padres y Madres

Honrar a Dios, a tu Padre, Madre, Abuela, y Abuelo. Llama a tu Padre.

Les amo a todos,

Don't Be Afraid

DON'T BE AFRAID
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque
Matthew 10:29-31

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.

30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly tells us not to be afraid. This is not merely a suggestion, but a profound truth meant to anchor our hearts in times of uncertainty. While fear is a natural emotion, it can paralyze us and erode our faith when it becomes the dominant force in our lives. The assurance that we "don’t have to be afraid" is rooted in the unchanging nature of God. He is our refuge and strength. Because of His omnipotence and love, we can release our anxieties and stand firm, knowing He is in control.

He assures us of this safety by pointing to one of the smallest birds of His creations. Consider the sparrow—a tiny bird, often overlooked. Yet, God cares for every single one, providing for their needs and knowing when even one falls to the ground. If God expends such attentive care on the common sparrow, how much more intensely does He watch over us, His children? We are worth infinitely more than many sparrows. He does not merely tolerate our existence; He actively loves us. This love establishes our worth not on our achievements or status, but solely on the fact that we are His.

His divine care is meticulous. Not only does God know the broad strokes of our lives, but He is intimately familiar with the minuscule details, too. Jesus tells us that "even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." This illustrates a level of personalized attention that far surpasses human understanding.

This knowledge extends to everything that concerns us—our fears, needs, joys, and struggles. Because God possesses this perfect knowledge and infinite love, we are never out of His sight. Therefore, we do not have to be afraid. The worries of life lose their power when viewed through the lens of God's vigilant care. Trusting in our all-knowing, all-loving God frees us to face the future with confidence and peace.

No Tengas Miedo

NO TENGAS MIEDO
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque
Matthew 10:29-31

Adore Him and Love Him

ADORE HIM AND LOVE HIM
Rosa Enid Cruz Roque
August 5, 2011

God gave me these words over 2 weeks ago. They are still in my mind and I want to share them with you all. I was at a prayer meeting at church and I didn’t sleep well the night before, maybe about 4 hours. I was physically exhausted and I was very sleepy. I tried to concentrate but I couldn’t. I told my Father God that I was having a hard time talking to Him because I was very tired. His response was “don’t try so hard, just PRAISE AND LOVE ME.”

These words penetrated my heart so powerfully that every time I think about them I just start to cry (I am not a person that cries at all time). Every time I think about what God said to me I feel the Holy Spirit ministering to my life in a beautiful way, I feel His love as He is hugging me.

We Christians complicate our relationship with God so much. He wants you to ADORE HIM AND LOVE HIM. He will guide you and me when we speak to Him. Delight yourself in His presence, there is nothing more beautiful in this world than to be in His presence, feeling His love and knowing that He is with you. He will fill your heart with His love. Say thanks to Him, TELL HIM HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIM. Be still in His arms of love, without hurry. That is your time with Him, God and you.

He said that He is with you till the end of the world. (Matthew 28:20 - and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.) You know that He is with you, like the verse says “ALWAYS”. Just Praise Him and Love Him.

Adorale y Amale

ADORALE Y AMALE

AMALE Y ADORALE.

True Story - Rosa Enid Cruz Roque

A Frightening Day

Several days prior to March 1, 2007, I learned through a news broadcast that there was potential for unfavorable weather conditions on that specific date.

When I got up in the morning, I didn't hear anything different about the weather than I was used to hearing, so I made the decision to send my son to Enterprise High School.

I got ready to go to college to take a music class I had that day. When I went to Enterprise Community College, almost all the parking spaces were empty. There were a few people in the hallways. I went to my classroom, and no one was there. I approached an individual and learned that the administration had dismissed all students due to imminent severe weather.

I went to the parking lot, called my son, and asked him if he wanted me to pick him up from school. He informed me that the school was releasing the students early, and I didn't need to meet him since he would be leaving on the school bus. Consequently, I returned home.

While I was home, I struck up a conversation with my oldest son about the weather. We were outside in the garage, chatting animatedly, when suddenly he pointed toward the trees. "Mami, (mommy) look!" he exclaimed, directing my attention to the trees. The wind pushed the trees back and forth, and the tree branches swayed violently. Darkness reigned in the place, and a terrifying sound echoed in the air. Frightened, I screamed at my son, "Corre!" (run)!

We don't have a basement, so we ran to the closet in the center of the house to find safe shelter. I prayed aloud, asking God for protection and waiting for the storm to pass quickly. The house was shaking so hard that it seemed like it was going to collapse over us.

For a moment, the wind stopped, and there was calm. I told my son, who was about to open the closet door, to stay still. The winds began again shaking the house with a disturbing force.

Upon the cessation of the winds, we emerged from the closet. I then proceeded to retrieve the radio. Turning on the radio, I heard in the news that a tornado had hit the high school in Enterprise. A wave of nervousness and worry washed over me since my son, who is the youngest in the family, attended that educational institution.

Hearing about the destruction, I went to my neighbor, whose husband was a high school teacher. With anxiety and concern, I asked her if she had any information. She confirmed the sad news to me that some people had lost their lives. At that moment, I felt a mixture of shock and fear for my son and all the students at school.

I called my husband and told him what had happened. Unfortunately, I didn't think clearly and told my older son to stay home while I went to pick up my younger son. I should have taken him with me, but my mind was not clear at the time.

As I was driving, trying to find the closest route to the school, I encountered a police officer stopping traffic. Upon inquiring, I was informed that there had been a tragic incident involving student deaths. Consequently, I was instructed to return home because they wouldn't let anyone go to school.

In my eagerness to see my son, I attempted to reach the school using different routes. However, to my dismay, the streets leading to the school were closed, hindering my journey. I drove through a parking lot and saw a lot of people walking. I parked on the grass next to a bank, got out of the car, and started walking.

As I drew closer, I was greeted by a scene of utter devastation, resembling the aftermath of a bomb explosion. Destruction and chaos were strewn everywhere.

Many people were walking towards the high school. As I made my way towards the high school, a chaotic scene unfolded before my eyes. Overturned cars lay strewn across the concrete and grass, electrical wires dangled dangerously, and debris littered the ground, creating an unsettling atmosphere. I had to move cautiously, making sure not to step on anything dangerous.

While walking in front of a different school, an individual suddenly began shouting to everyone, "Run! Another tornado is approaching." I quickly scanned my surroundings but couldn't observe any visible signs of a tornado.

As I listened to people shouting warnings of another tornado, worry for my oldest son began to take over me. I reflected on my decision not to take him with me to the high school and wished I had. The church where the teenagers were was relatively close, so I decided to continue walking in that direction.

I was really desperate to see my son. They told me that the young people were in the basement of the Baptist Church, and I went there to look for my son. At that time, my son had an afro. I was wandering around the basement trying to find my son. Suddenly my eyes met his. Seeing me, my son walked towards me, and we embraced each other. Tears rolled down our cheeks as we hugged each other tightly.

I am eternally grateful to God for my son's safety, but my heart aches deeply for the innocent lives, including those of my son's precious friends, who perished in the devastating force of the tornado. Although our home was not damaged, the proximity of the natural phenomenon left us in a state of shock and with a deep feeling of vulnerability.

When I was writing the chapter about the storm, it reminded me of that terrible day. I want to dedicate this chapter to the people who faced the tornado in Enterprise, Alabama, and the people who faced Hurricane María in Puerto Rico. Both events are very close to my heart.

Before the Hurricane - Preparations

In preparation for the emergency situation due to the passage of Hurricane Maria, we purchased essential items such as water, canned food, disposable utensils, batteries and other necessary supplies. Following my mother's teachings, I took on the responsibility of laundering all of our clothing and meticulously cleaning every corner of our home. We promptly completed our bathing routine, cognizant of the imminent water shortage and the challenges it would present.

In anticipation of a potential water and electricity outage, we cooked and dined early. Additionally, we took precautions to ensure a sufficient supply of food and water for several days. In order to ensure an adequate reserve during times of water scarcity, we judiciously store water in multiple containers to maximize capacity and availability.

During the Hurricane - The Nightmare

Despite the roar of the winds and the creaking of the breaking trees, we were in a state of tranquility and confidence, as the protection of our God gave us a feeling of security.

My main concern arose during a phone call with one of my daughters, who lives in the United States. In the middle of the conversation, I noticed water starting to enter the living room of my house. At that time, I said that the house was flooding, knowing that it was impossible due to the conditions of the place. Unfortunately, the call was abruptly cut off, leaving me without the chance to clarify the situation.

With a deafening bang, a massive tree crashed into the wall. Thank God, the only damage it caused was breaking the fence. From that moment forward, we were left without any means of communication.

After the hurricane - Disaster

With determination and effort, a neighbor took the initiative to clean the road. He embarked on the task of cutting down the trees that blocked the street, clearing the way, and restoring accessibility for residents and vehicles.

It was a horrible nightmare without water, electricity, and being able to communicate with my daughters and family in the United States.

Gas stations nearby were experiencing exceptionally long lines, with vehicles queuing up for miles. With businesses closed and the air dominated by unpleasant odors, the environment served as a lingering reminder of the devastation caused by the hurricane. Near my residence, gasoline-powered generators unleashed their toxic emissions, polluting the purity of the natural surroundings.

Three days after the hurricane, I managed to reach Caguas. From an elevated place on the highway, I was able to communicate with my daughters.

With a sense of urgency, my daughters efficiently handled the necessary arrangements, ensuring that my husband and I embarked on our journey to the United States. During the flight, a somber atmosphere prevailed as passengers shared their disheartening experiences stemming from the recent hurricane.

Elderly residents living in high-rise apartments in San Juan faced significant challenges due to an inoperable elevator. It was practically impossible for them to go downstairs to meet their essential needs, such as acquiring water, food, and fuel.

When banks and supermarkets opened, customers experienced substantial waiting times. On average, individuals were compelled to endure lines that spanned approximately four to five hours.

Our beautiful island, once a tropical paradise, was left in total disaster after the passage of Hurricane María.

On September 6, 2017, the imminent passage of Hurricane Irma over Puerto Rico was announced. Although it did not cross the island as predicted, it caused damage, and in my neighborhood we were without power for ten days. On the 20th, another catastrophic hurricane was expected to hit Puerto Rico. The reports in the news were constant, and the warnings were to prepare for the worst, due to the imminent passage of a category four or five hurricane. We were all securing properties and purchasing supplies for what was coming. Everyone was waiting to see what was going to happen since there were still homes without basic services due to the passage of Hurricane Irma 14 days before.

During the Hurricane - Distress

At midnight on September 20, 2017, we began to hear strong winds, and the power immediately went out. The darkness was total. The sound of many things flying around could be heard. The storm shutters were moving so much that it seemed like they were going to fly away, windows and all. In the darkness of the night, we could hear the horrible noises caused by the strong winds of the hurricane, and we also heard horrible screams. I felt such anguish that I began to experience an anxiety attack. I had to get up and move to a couch in the middle of the living room because of the panic attack.

There were hours of great tension and anguish. It seemed like it would never dawn again.

After 5:30 a.m. It began to clear slowly, and around 7:20 in the morning it became calm, and we went out to the front balcony to observe what happened. Ten minutes later it was already raining, and the winds started again. At that time the winds were coming from the other side of the house, and were so strong that the kitchen door opened several times, and my husband tied it up. We didn't count on the fact that the hurricane brought tornadoes. The wind blew so hard that it tore off the kitchen door, frame and all. It was surprising to see the four-inch screws (studs) come out like they were thumbtacks. The fence dividing the land fell. The roof of the house flooded because the drains were clogged, and it was not until Saturday that they could be unclogged.

Despite the persistent winds and rain throughout the day, I found a sense of calmness. The presence of some light enabled me to perceive my surroundings, granting me the ability to take appropriate action if necessary. During the night on Thursday and early Friday it continued to rain and the wind blew, but not as much as the night before, although there were strong wind gusts.

After the Hurricane - Disaster

On Friday we got up early and went out in our youngest son's car, since the car was small and we thought it would be easier to maneuver it. We were worried and wanted to know how our closest relatives were doing. From the moment we left our house, we began to see the disaster caused by the hurricane; it was a desolate panorama. We went first to my in-laws' house, and because we couldn't drive through, we had to leave the car. We had to walk a stretch of road to get to them because a huge tree had fallen and we could only get through on foot and very carefully because there were power cables lying on the ground. Thank God my in-laws' were fine, although the basement of the house where their youngest son lived with his wife and daughter had flooded.

Very worried, we decided to go check on my daughter, her husband, and their children, who live further away, and this was indeed an ordeal. We decided to go the usual way, but it was very risky; we went through narrow places and under fallen trees and poles. The panorama was desolate; it seemed that a bomb had fallen and destroyed everything in its path. When we were about four minutes away from arriving, we began to see cars turning back since there was no way to go through. Two huge cement poles had fallen, and all the high-voltage cables were scattered across the street. At that point we had to turn since there was no way to pass.

We felt frustrated and worried because we did not know what condition they were in with two small children, "one five years old and the other nine months old." Going back again under fallen trees and poles was very hard for me. I noticed that the car radio was making static noises when we went under the poles, indicating that they still had power. We decided to try to go on the highway, but as soon as we started the journey, we saw some cars coming in the opposite direction. We wondered what was happening, but we continued forward with great caution, as we were determined to reach my daughter and her family.

The view of the whole region was desolation. The trees had lost their greenery and looked broken and burned. It seemed as if a bomb had fallen, causing great destruction. Very carefully, we managed to reach the highway exit near my daughter's house, but we didn't realize that the stretch of road to get there was in worse condition than the one we traveled before. On this occasion, I was very afraid of having to go under a large electricity pole. The hood of the car almost touched the pole because of how low the pole was. At that moment I prayed to God to protect us and told my husband to pass as quickly as he could under the circumstances.

We arrived at my daughter's house, and thank God everyone was fine. They were without electricity or water, and the land was full of branches due to the fallen trees in the surroundings. At that moment we decided to leave for my mother's house, and I confess that I once again felt a great fear of having to go under the big pole again. In prayer, I begged God to allow us to pass safely, as I was afraid that the pole would fall completely, and I did not want that to happen while we were driving under the electricity pole. When we reached the entrance to the highway, it was blocked and at that moment we understood why the cars were going in the opposite direction when we were heading towards my daughter's house. We decided to follow the cars that entered through the highway exit, and stay to the right at all times, and very carefully return to where we had come.

When we left the highway, we headed towards a detour through which we could get to my mother's house faster, but it was impossible. The street was also blocked by fallen trees and mudslides. My husband set out to help some people who were trying to clear the area, but it was impossible because machinery was needed to remove the debris.

Once again we set out to find another way to get to my mother's house, who lived with my uncle, "two people over eighty years old." Thank God we managed to arrive there and found them well. My sister and her husband also arrived; they were just like us checking that everybody was okay. She was worried since she had passed by my house and hadn't found us. My other two brothers and their families were fine, thanks to God.

In my community, neighbors began to help each other; we even shared as a family during the afternoons. My husband, my children, and several neighbors got organized to help clear the streets and driveways so people could come and go without difficulty. They cut and moved fallen trees, branches, and debris. They formed a help brigade and went out daily to help those who needed help.

We went through months of uncertainty. There was a lot of need in all the towns of Puerto Rico. Lack of basic services caused long lines in supermarkets, stores, restaurants, and gas stations. There was no way to communicate since the communication towers for the internet were on the ground, the ATHs (interbank network) did not work, and people were not able to use their ATH cards. There was no drinking water or electricity. Food became scarce in supermarkets, and shelves were seen half full or almost empty. Construction materials in hardware stores were among the most sought after, since all the houses needed repairs, or in some cases, the construction of the entire house was necessary. Construction materials were scarce and had to be ordered and paid for to receive them at future dates that could be months later.

The news reported the tragedies experienced on the island. The images of the disaster caused by the passage of Hurricane Maria in all the towns of Puerto Rico were very heartbreaking. The photos and videos showed the great force of nature, how the winds destroyed everything in their path, and how floods covered up entire communities. Stories were presented of people who were saved with the help of neighbors, and the saddest thing was the stories of people who lost their lives due to the hurricane or due to the lack of means and resources after its passage.

In my town, the municipality established a help center for citizens in the baseball stadium. Breakfast and lunch were distributed to all who attended. Even people from other nearby towns came to Cayey to be fed. In addition, groceries were sent to the citizens of the town through community leaders. A FEMA office was also established so that those affected could request the corresponding aid.

Seven years have passed since Hurricane Maria, and there are still communities with houses with blue roofs. The United States government allocated federal funds for the repair of different areas such as roads, structures, bridges, health, and education, among others, but unfortunately very little reaches the people, that is, those truly affected. Over time, it has come to light the existence of warehouses with supplies that were not delivered to those in need. To this day, money to help the victims that was given to the PR government is not known who or how it was used for. The people of PR have suffered a lot, and to make matters worse, in 2019 there were several earthquakes, in 2020 the pandemic arrived, and in 2022 Hurricane Fiona caused major floods. It hasn't been easy, but we still continue to fight with hope of moving forward.

Her Purpose - Soulmates - Chapter 14

CHAPTER 14 - THANKSGIVING

Melinne Martin

Family and friends were gathering together to celebrate Thanksgiving. Her relationship with Michael was steady. For Melinne and her family, Thanksgiving was an especially important day. Even though she knew that every day we should give thanks to God, this holiday was chosen for that specific reason. The concept of Thanksgiving can be traced back to the Holy Bible, where it represents a fundamental aspect of God's people. In both the Old and New Testaments, Thanksgiving emphasizes gratitude and praise to God for His many blessings. It is the act of saying and showing that you are grateful to God.

Michael and Melinne had been dating for the past few weeks, and she wanted to introduce him to all her family and friends. She rented her favorite restaurant, the Jewel Restaurant, for the family gathering. Melinne wore a royal blue sequin Tulle Glitter lace-up back dress. Her sister Marianne entered her room. "Wow, Melinne, you look gorgeous."

"Thank you, sister; you look gorgeous also." They hugged. "Thank you for all your help all these years, Marianne. I have the best sisters and brothers in the world. I give thanks to God every day for my beautiful family." She rode with her dad Mark, her brother Jonah, and her sister Marianne. They were chatting, laughing, and looking at the beautiful nature as they rode to the restaurant.

They got out of the car, and Melinne looked to the parking lot to see if Michael was already there. She panicked, and her heart twisted. She was pale, held her stomach, and leaned. She felt like she was going to faint. Pieces of her past came back to her. It was like she was reliving everything Travis did. Why did she stay so long with him? The only reason that came to her mind was that when she was little, she heard at church that marriage was for life.

She tried to hold on to something that wasn't working. She even heard testimonies of women that their spouses grabbed them by their hair and hit them, and then God saved them. That can happen, but God does not ask of you to stay in a relationship where somebody is abusing you. For me, it ended really badly; I lost my baby, and I was nearly killed.

According to the word of God, we are called to lead a peaceful existence. God extends his protection to his people, rescuing them from harm caused by wicked and violent individuals. God does not tolerate abuse, viewing it as sinful and unacceptable behavior. And he, greatly pleased, in setting free the maltreated. I should've listened to God instead of what people said.

While she was thinking, she didn't hear her family call her. "Melinne, Melinne." Marianne uttered. As she came back from her trance, her family was surrounding her. Her dad had his arms around her shoulder, her sister was in front of her trying to talk to her, and her brother's eyes showed distress in them. Marianne looked at her with worried eyes. "Melinne, are you alright, darling?"

"I think I saw somebody I didn't want to see in the parking lot. I looked back, but nobody was there. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me."

She saw Michael walking towards her with a concerned look. "Are you alright? love. You look pale like you saw a ghost."

"I'm fine Michael, I thought I saw somebody there," she pointed at the parking lot. "I looked back, and nobody was there." They stared at each other. Michael hugged her gently, and her breathing calmed down. He had that effect on her. She strongly wished to stay in his arms for a long time, but she had to introduce him to her family. "Michael, this is my dad, my brother Jonah, and you already know Marianne."

"A pleasure to meet you all," he greeted. They chatted for a bit, and then they started to walk toward the restaurant.

Michael took her hand on their way to the restaurant. When she entered the restaurant, she introduced Simon, Leann, and their dates to Michael. She was going to introduce Michael to Maggie when she came, almost running to them. She gave Melinne a firm hug and told Michael. "Mikey, I didn't know Melinne was dating you." She hugged Michael. "Melinne, this is my friend Mikey, the one that is like a brother to me. I am so glad you are together. You are made for each other." They both smiled and goggled at each other. Maggie cleared her throat, and Melinne blushed. "You are blushing, Melinne," she teased.

"No, I am not."

"Yes, you are. This is the first time I have seen you blush like that. I am so happy for you." She hugged her again.

The door opened, and Alexander Henry entered the room. Maggie's eyes lighten up. Melinne looked at her with wide eyes. Maggie said to her, "What?"

"Nothing sweetheart." Melinne answered with a cheeky smile.

Maggie, Marianne, Sarah, and Liz were chatting with Melinne and laughing. The door opened, and a man with black hair and sunglasses entered the restaurant. Sarah got up the chair so happy and with excitement and said, "Oh, my charming date is here." Melinne panicked. Nobody recognized him with black hair, but she knew who he was. He walked to their table, and Sarah gave him a sweet kiss. "Hi honey, I want to introduce you to my friends." Before she finished the sentence, the man removed his glasses and looked at Melinne; his eyes were cold like an iceberg. He said,

"Hi Melinne, How are you doing? I have missed you so much."

Sarah quivered and looked flabbergasted at her date and then at Melinne. "Do you know each other?" Melinne looked at Sarah with tears in her eyes. She clenched her teeth and felt lightheaded. Maggie looked at her and saw fear, sadness, and anger in her friend's eyes. She put an arm around her and hugged her. She knew Melinne so well that when she gazed toward her friend, she knew instantly what was happening. Maggie clenched her fists and screamed at him.

"Get out of here!"

Why did Travis return? Why did he appear in my life again? What does he want? For her, their relationship was over, and Travis was just a bad memory. At that moment, she remembered the last words Travis said to her. This is not over; I love you, and you will always belong to me.
